There are number of flights connecting to Italy. If one is not in a hurry train travel is the easy and great way to reach Italy from within Europe. Bus services to Italy is also numerous but convenience wise it is next to train only. Italy is connected to Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Malta, Albania, Croatia and Spain through ferry services.
Travel within any of the major cities, Italy provides a pretty good bus network. Buses are fast and reliable. Many regional bus companies for long-distance travel serve Italy. However, there is a lot to see in Italy that is inaccessible by bus or train. If any one wants to see more of the country, renting a car is a great way of getting off the beaten track. Roads are generally good throughout the country, and there is an excellent network of freeways.
The Italian train system, Ferrovia dello Stato, or FS is very good and usually on time. Traveling by train in Italy has a certain romantic ambiance about it and so it is highly recommended between cities.
For traveling to the islands, one can either take a ferry, or a ship. The more common ports are Naples, Genoa, and Palermo. Car ferries operate to Sicily and Sardinia. If you are traveling by train from Italy onto Sicily, they will load the train onto a ferry. Then you re-board the train once you are on the other side.
